The Tonbak is the major percussion Instrument in Persian Music. Siamak Pouian is the most highly acclaimed Persian Tonbak player in the world as well as one of the most famous masters of Tonbak in Iranian history. Siamak Pouian is highly regarded throughout Europe as well as Canada and America. Siamak has developed the techniques used on this instrument, elevating it to its present-day status as a virtuoso instrument. Siamak is best known for his ability to improvise. A pioneer in his field, he continues to inspire audiences with his explosive repertoire. He has performed at many high-profile events throughout the world such as the Warner Brothers 75th Anniversary celebration. Also, he has accompanied a great number of prominent vocalist and instrumentalists, too numerous to mention. Many reputable newspapers and art magazines such as The Los Angeles Times, have frequently praised his performance and consider him to be the top in his field.

Siamak is currently a professor of music at University of California - Santa Barbara. He also teaches at the Pouian Music Conservatory in Orange County.
